Studio Companies

Our studio companies are designed for dancers who want to immerse themselves even further into dance outside of their regular technique classes. Each season, performance company members choreograph their own solos as well as learn group choreography. They attend one dance convention and one competition, as well as perform in a special showcase at the end of the season. Other community performance opportunities are occasionally available.

How do I join? All potential company members must audition each season before fall classes begin. The audition consists of Ballet and Modern technique as well as learning a short piece of choreography. Dancers must also present a self-choreographed solo that is 30-60 seconds long in any style. For the 2023-24 Season, auditions will be held on Friday, August 25, 5-7pm. Options to join via Zoom or submit a video audition are available. Contact us at ssodinfo@gmail.com for more information.

What are the requirements for company members? All company members must attend rehearsals each week. This season, Agate Studio Company meets 2-4pm on Sundays, and Copper Studio Company meets 4-6pm on Sundays. In addition to regular rehearsals, company members are required to be enrolled in Ballet 3 or higher and Modern 4 or higher. They must also choreograph and perform a solo publicly at some point in the season.

How much does it cost? Enrollment in Studio Companies is $105/month, in addition to regular technique class tuition, however, company members do get to take advantage of a tuition cap - enroll in 3 technique classes and any additional classes are free!

In addition to technique classes, company members are required to attend one dance convention, where we generally also compete with one group dance per company, and another competition where we perform two group dances per company. Competing with solos/duets/trios is optional but encouraged.

  • Dance Convention Fees - approximately $270 + travel and hotel fees

  • Dance Competition Fees - Solos $100-150, Group Dances $50-55 per dancer + travel and hotel fees

Various fundraising opportunities are available throughout the year to help offset the extra costs of conventions and competitions.
